Penetration/Arrow Question...
« on: November 13, 2008, 05:06:00 PM »
So in my endless day of bordem in this rain storm I started playing in the shop.

I started looking my arrows over and what not and checking things out.

My setup Black Widow PSAV 62" 46# @ my draw of 26 1/2"

My 3 arrow options all cut 28 1/2"...

*Easton GG 500 4x5" w/ wrap 125g stinger = 490g = 10.6 g/lb

*Easton 2016 4x4" w/ wrap 125g stinger = 480g= 10.4g/lb

*Easton Axis 500 3x5" w/ wrap 280g snuffer/deadhead (FOC 21%) = 575g = 12.5g/lb

Well all 3 arrows shoot great...I'm good out to 30 yards in the range so they are tuned.

My question is which do you think would out perform in the field?  Which arrow would you guys take standard or the high FOC?  I dont get to shoot 20 deer a year so I cant go about testing it that way and in my bordem here home I figured let me ask you guys!

My buddy has my chrono so I can't get speeds for you guys but once I get it back I'll post em up.  And until I get a heavier bow I want to maximize my very short draw.

Hey Tom,
I would say the Axis 500 @ 12.5 grains per pound would penetrate the best.  Even with the 3 blade snuffer I think that between the higher grains/pound and thinner diameter shaft I think they would outpenetrate the other two options.  As long as the trajectory of the arrows doesn't bother you, that is what I would shoot. Bloodtrail should be sweet with that combo.

i agree, shoot the heavier set up as long as the noise is the same or less. The heavier set up should be quieter but the fletch may make a difference in noise.

only change in noise is the 2 blade pearson has a slight hiss to it...the snuffers are deathly silent!!
