I've been interested for a couple 3 years now, started a few threads on here to see where people are on the subject.  It would seem the sure fire answer is to spend the money on a wire hair dachshund, fellow out of New York has the blood lines that are proven and impressive.  However, for me I don't have the money or the time and I know there are dogs that will do the job that are reasonable on the price and need a place to be.  Therefor (as the chicken hawk says to fog horn leg horn) I am on the list for a Leopard Curr that I plan on training on blood lines. A dog bred for its nose, used for squirrel and raccoon hunting.

I know a man that has a lot of money (A LOT OF MONEY) and he bought this yellow lab for who knows how many thousands of dollars.  It is specifically trained to go find sheds and he takes it out on the weekends.   I don't know much about it, but definatly an interesting topic. -Lee

lab, my budy trained his lab on his own. the dog found 76 sheds the fist yr out. then he bred the dog, kept 2 of the pups and has a pack of shed hunting dogs...truely incredible. i saw an article in outdoor life few yrs back with some guy that had his lab trained...this dog didnt compare to my buddies self trained dogs. he  finds 150-200+ per yr.

Labs are good. Heck, I saw a lab find a skull and full rack, half buried in a creek!
Here's the mount from them.
I also watched a guy who trained his lab to hunt sheds on "Outdoor Wisconsin". They did really good!
Got wood? - Tom
