I built a new bow to hunt with this season. I was a little unsure about hunting with it as it was less than a week before the opener when I finished it but it turned out well. I have now filled all of my deer tags in the part of TX where I hunt. Here's how it all broke down in reverse order.
Yesterday morning before daylight I could barely distinguish this deer as he came in. I could tell he had a big body and was sure he was a buck from his size and demeanor but I could not make out a rack. Just as I was able to see his rack a smaller 8 pt showed up and this deer left my shooting range to chase him away. A few minutes later I saw him coming back but just as he was getting close enough a doe came in and he chased her out of sight. By this point I was able to determine that he was an old deer and a good one to kill if I got the chance. now I was stressed because I could have probably killed him and I missed the chance because it was to dark. Just as I was coping with the fact that he had gotten away I see him coming back...
He's a very mature deer which makes him a trophy to me even though he doesn't have a big rack. Anyway to back up a little, I had filled my two doe tags in early October...
Now I will have to focus on these until turkey season...
and we have a ton of them. But i'm headed to my home state of Mississippi for the week of Thanksgiving and again between Christmas and New Years maybe there is some mojo left in the new bow!
