best way to store wool?

what is the best way to keep wool over the summer?  i have heard of moths eating wool, dont know if thats true, ive never really had moths in my house, but id rather not have them eat my 200$ coat without me knowing, lol.  so how do you keep yours in the hot months?

I just put mine in a plastic storage container with a cedar block in it. Don't use moth ball when you store your wool because you can never get the smell out, I have a used shirt that I bought and it was stored in moth balls, every time it gets damp or wet you can smell them and I'm sure the deer will also.

After I have it dry cleaned, I keep it it the dry cleaning bag with some cedar, seems to work. I have a few wool shirts that are 30 years old. I can't belive they still fit....lol.  ron w

Does anyone just hang their wool in the closet? and if so, ever had moth problems? Is it necessary to dry clean it every year?

would those little ceder pet bedding chips work ok, in a plastic container?

Yes, I use cedar chips from the pet store. Stuff knee high nylons with em, and just tie the top. Kinda like a cedar summer sausage. Throw a couple in in your storage bin, hang em from a hanger in the closet, or throw one in yer dresser drawer.

I do exactly the same as you do. I would only add that the block used should be Eastern Red Cedar, which supposedly is the best variety of cedar for discouraging moths.

I have some wool shirts that have hung year round in the closet without a problem.  I wash my wool in the washer using sportwash and lay it out to dry.

I keep all my hunting clothes in blue plastic 50 gallon drums with scent wafers inside. Keeps out foreign oders and moths as well. I use the smaller 25 gallon size for taking clothes on hunting trips serves same purpose in camp and I can store my stuff outside away from camp oders and containers are waterproof and float as well. The smaller drums can be bought at most good canoe outfitters. Bigger ones you have to keep an eye out for and you want them from food or drug industry so as can be washed out and no foreign smells.

I had a wool tuxedo jacket get eat full of holes.  Hold it up to the light and it looked like a planetarium.  The moth larva will eat wool.  I had mine in an old cedar wardrobe but apparently it was too old and the cedar scent wasn't strong enough.

Wash in machine with couple boxes of baking soda and hang outside for as long as possible.
