tooling leather

I'm gonna make a back quiver.. Gonna do some tooling/stamping/ staining..

Was gonna brain tan this deer hide I just got..

Even though it may not be the easiest way to do this, my question is...

Will brain tanned deer hide/buckskin be too soft to tool, and hold a design.. Would I need a piece of veg tanned hide??

I'm no expert, but I would think it would be too thin to tool.

You can cover a piece of tooling leather with the buckskin. I don't think the deer will work to well with the tooling, and stamping.

You want vegetable tanned (such as Tandy's Oak Tanned) leather for tooling.
