would you hunt everything in canada with a 2 blade b/head?
« on: November 20, 2008, 06:25:00 AM »
i plan on using blackstump 2 bladers for all my hunting in canada. i'll be on a working holiday so i have no idea what i'll be lucky enough to have the opportunity to hunt. these things are 1 1/8" wide and are the toughest thing i've shot. they give me the most confidence. is there any situation or species where you think this b/head might be lacking? BTW looks like i'll be turning up in vancouver around 27-28th dec. i'd certainly be keen to meet any of you fellow gangers while i'm in your part of the world.so if you meet someone with a bow who greets you with a "g'day", chances are it's me. Clint... don't worry about the Blackstump 2 bladers. They'll do just fine for ya.

Enjoy your time "up north".

Well, I'm on the Atlantic side of Canada, but the only thing I'd be careful of is bears...grizzlies especially! Other than that, go for it.

I wouldn't hunt anything in Canada with a broadhead that had more than two blades. I'm very biased though. Just make sure that they're so sharp you don't like having them in the house and of course, shot placement is far more important than anything else.

Have a great hunt and be sure to post pics and stories when you get back.

I don't think the animals know they're in Canada.

The Woodsman head was designed for big critters and I have no qualms about a Razorcap or other sharp 3 blade or even a four blade Muzzy Phantom.

Shoot whatever you have the most confidence in, have good time and don't spend alot of time overanylizing stuff like this :-)

They sure do Biggie! You guys have more hunters in one city than we have in the whole of Canada. Our animals are relaxed, they don't look up at every tree and there not used to someone peeking out from behind every tree. There's only one negative to hunting in Canada and that's the fact that we have no wild HAWGS!!! He Clint, I'm bout 4000 miles east of Vancouver in Ontario. If you make it out this way, make sure you let me know. Not real good stump shooting weather around here as there's a foot of white stuff on the ground and it's real hard to find your arras in this stuff.

Hunt it,

Sorry, but we DO have hogs in Canada. They are considered pests in Alberta.

These are domestic swine that have escaped and gone feral, like many hog populations.

RW,

I know about those ones, they are escapees from game farms. Thats why I stated wild hawgs.

Biggie,

I think you're as biased towards three blade broadheads as I am towards two blades!

Just give them time. A couple of generations living off the land and their tails will straighten out and their ears won't be floppy and they'll have a bad attitude!

That's all I use is 2 blades for everything. kepp 'em sharp (I have my KME sharpener now WOW) and hit the right spot.

I shot a ten year old bear here and it went in breaking a rib and out slicing the other in half and the arrow never even slowed down.

He went about 30 feet stopped had a dump and fell over...DEAD.

Sharp and placement (arrow weight has lots to do with it too)

Hunt it,

The ones I saw pictures of look to have "returned to the wild" in the fullest.

Big tusks, dark hair, and all that.

And I would shoot one every chance I got. Hogs are an absolute nightmare when they get foothold. And are very damaging to the environment, with their rooting, etc.

Most of the hog populations in the US (aside from javelina's/peccary's are not "native" species, either, I believe. But they have been "feral" for generations in some areas, or introduced.

Have a great hunt!

I used the 2 bld. Zwikee Eskimo in BC Canada a few years ago.  Got a moose, caribou and grizzley.  None went over 30 yds.  Shoot em where you are suppose to and a 2 bld will do just fine.  Shoot em in the butt and it won't matter how many blades you have, you'll have a wounded animal.

That's the whole point. If you shoot em where you are supposed to, a field point will kill em.
But if'n ya don't.............
