Almost.....
« on: November 21, 2008, 06:39:00 PM »
Tonight I went and sat on the ground at a spot that I know the deer frequent. About half an hour before dark I heard a deer snort behind me and thought my night was done, but decided to stick around. A few minutes later a doe started working her way towards me through the thick timber. She got to 12 yards and just stood there, looking at me and in the direction that she came from. I was in a blind that took me 3 minutes to make so I'm suprised she didn't bust me. Then I see the other deer out of the corner of my eye, and she busts outta there. The doe in front of me just keeps staring in that direction while facing towards me, if I had a broadside shot I would have shot her earlier. I'm sitting on a bucket and after a while my arms, legs, neck, and back really started to hurt. After what seemed like an eternity she turned broadside.
Now...you guys (and gals) have no idea how many times I have thought "pick a spot", all the practice I've done, and how many times I've visualized the arrow sinking into the "sweet spot" on a deers side. If I had a dollar for every one of those times, I would owm my own ranch out West or something  :D
Anyway, I slowly drew, and came to anchor. She looked right at me, so I just shot. The cedar shaft tipped with a Bear Razorhead sailed harmlessly over her back, and she was gone. It was getting dark, I didn't pick a spot, I just released. After all that rehearsal, I blew it......

But that's bowhunting I guess, I enjoyed it anyway. Maybe next time.

Yeah I can so feel your pain...I did the exact same thing this year. Twice. Bet you left the woods smiling though.
