It is not and should not be the job or responsibility of a game warden to finish our job.

I wish I knew how best to say this, so I'll just muddle through...

I'm disappointed to not be able to follow through on Katie's trial.  This is by all intents and purposes a very "extreme" situation that might have helped me learn more.

However, let's not jump to conclusions on why the moderators or the site chose to close and pull the thread.

If I remember, there were some who started to speculate on it being a gut shot, even though both Katie and the warden saw the entrance holes right where it belonged tight behind the shoulder...but it'd stopped bleeding, etc...(from memory of course).

This is a great site. The mods and the owners do a lot and put up a lot of time and money to make it happen! If they "sense" something going south on a topic, they have to do what they think best.

We don't know what got posted that might have clicked the delete button. So let's just support Katie through PM's and hope for the best.

I'd have liked to have learned more about the conclusion of this event to learn should similar situation ever hit me, but again, this is a private site and the folks involved put a lot into this for our pleasure.

Let's continue to support Katie and the retrival of her deer...but let's be supportive of this site we all love so much and NOT jump to conclusions about PC and other issues related to whatever decision was made.

Now help an old man down off his soapbox before a break a hip!  :)

so if a warden is in the woods with ya AND HAS A GUN, and you see a deer that is suffering but cant be hit with an arrow, he should not shoot?

Thats right - unless its gun season, he is hunting and plans to tag it himself.

If PC is the worry, then why are all the pics of harvested animals allowed?
Im disappointed they pulled this thread. It taught a lot, had the potential to teach more and I, for one, was really interested in seeing the outcome.
Hunting is about killing. There isnt sugar coating. Sometimes, bad things happen, and it is our duty to do all we can to see it through. Katie was doing just that.

Again... speculation won't get us what we desire. Opinions are plentiful and we each can have different ones without anyone being 'right' or "wrong."

Our High School baseball coach once was quoted saying,"If?...IF, IF my Aunt was built different, she'd be my Uncle"...

Nothing to be gained by speculating other'n to have this break down into a spitting match. In deferance to Katie's situation, and how awful we know she feels, can we just let this lie!?

Many of us have had similar things happen we can't figure out or explain when pursuing animals with weapons of all sorts.  We can run the secenario in our minds--a thousand times...and it seems our choices were solid.

We can't know...(good gradeschool teacher logic when knowing is impossible) :)  what happened with her shot NOR why the thread was deleted.

Nothing good can come from continuing to speculate or banter on that which is history.

Let's just pull for Katie to get closure

Katie,

I think everyone here would like to hear the outcome and see your pictures if all goes well. I don't believe for one minute that anyone thinks you did anything unethical. Your experience is a big reality in our sport of hunting no matter what tool/device is used. Many of us have wounded and lost game, it happens, how long those animals suffer is unknown because the animal was not found in most cases, you just found your animal. Sometimes what happens in the woods is best staying in the woods. We as hunters never know who is watching and reading. We need to make sure that the dark side of our sport is not exsposed to those that might use it against us. The decision to pull the thread was a good one in my opinion. Don't let this experience change your desire to bow hunt Katie. This has happened to the best of us and will continue to, it's reality. Not every shot will hit the x, no matter how much we practice or how good a shoot you are. Let us know if you find your buck we would all like to know how you make out.

STEVE B,

Sorry you feel that way. If an animal is suffering and you/I cannot finish it off with archery gear and it is illegal to take a gun out and do it. You are in favour of letting it suffer? That I consider unethical,I would contact the Game Warden and ask him to give me the ok to take a firearm and do so. If he says no, he better get over and take care of it himself.

I just stopped in and saw this thread.
My 2 cents is that I would like to read an on going search and recovery effort for a wounded animal.
It is much better than the typical "I'm sure it will be alright" or "I couldn't find it so I shot another" type of statement we hear from some.

I say keep looking and good luck.

Its a possible path for the course we choose.

We do not need to promote the perception that firearms may be needed to finish our job because our equipment did not get it done.

Please note I said "perception" - a very real possiblity from either non hunters or gun huunters.

Steve H. agrees with SteveB.

Think about the implications if everytime someone doesn't put one down in some predetermined amount of time if everyone started screaming like Chicken Little, "OH MY GOD GET A GUN"!!!  BAAAAAAA!!!!!

I'm dissappointed the thread was pulled but I'll trust the Mods judgement.  I just hope it wasn't PC related, Katie has been outstanding!  Maybe Terry will jump in and give us an update since this thread has been followed so closely by so many.

First, all those hollering "PC" have no clue why we pull threads, when we choose to pull them. Nothing is done on Tradgang in an effort to be (or not be) politically correct. We have a few simple rules: respect, discussions centered on and around traditional bowhunting, and in short, anything we can do to further the traditional bowhunter's way of life. If it falls outside those rules, it's pulled. Sometimes, we must make a decison in a gray area...in our best efforts to keep the site on track. If you have a question or concern about why something is/was pulled  SIMPLY ASK ADMIN OR A MODERATOR IN PRIVATE, VIA EMAIL OR PM...MAKING A PUBLIC SPECTACLE WITH MULTIPLE POSTS REGARDING HOW SOMETHING IS WRONG/UNFAIR ETC WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP YOUR POSITION.

Katie has called the search to an end...let's move on.
