The colour of Grizzly heads...?
« on: December 06, 2008, 06:09:00 PM »
G'day all,

Well I wanted to try out the Grizzly heads as I'm normally a STOS or WW head man myself. I placed an order through 3Rivers for a set of 145g ones and in the pic they looked like the head was black. But when the heads tured up there a brown colour.

I've weighed the heads and yes there 145g's but I kinda like black heads, funny I know, but thats just me...lol.

Have the colours in the Grizzly's changed at all?

Just had to ask is all...

No, the 145's are brown.  The only black Grizzlies are the 125 and the 190.

I don't know about now, but the grizzly heads that are lighter than 160 have reportedly softer steel. I would buy the 160's if i were you and give them the Dr Ed Ashbey treatment which will put them about spot on 145. Fair bit of work though. My 190's come to about 175. That hard and tough steel is what makes them, & the work , worth while. Make shure you file the flat side flat first before working on the bevel. Mine have NOT been flat at all.

ps-check out my jig i posted today for sharpening these.

Saw your jig, very nice!

Rick P, the 150 El Grandes are clay in color, just like the 160's.

Al, you need the 160s. They're red, and will hence fly faster.

Yes get the 160's in red for extra speed or the 190's in black for extra umphhh.  Leave the other weights to the city folk.

I regularly hunt bears with a 150grn broad head and have had no trouble knocking them down. Palmer Alaska is hardly a city!

paint them whatever color you like. I know a guy who "sees" his broadhead while he is shooting- he paints them WHITE.
