I found my first downfall to traditional.
« on: January 02, 2007, 11:16:00 PM »
Its not easy to find stores that sell what you need. I went to my local pro shop and drove 80 miles to Gander Mountain. Niether place had arrows I could use. The aluminum were 20xx -up and all the carbons (which I prefer not to use) had vanes instead of feathers. The only glove I found was a Vista Mega Glove which I had nothing to compare it too. Does anyone know if its any good? I did buy it and a stringer.

Anyone have any idea where to find help and supplies near

research products here on TG and shop on-line if possible. classifieds here have just about everything one needs at great prices.

One of the many great sponsers on this site.  Everyone I have used is very helpful and can get you what you need in a few days.  Local stores that have good Trad are few and far between.

I figured online shopping was where I would find most things. The problem I have is being new to traditional bows I want to be able to compare different brands. When you have never even seen something its hard to know what you like. Gander did have 4 recurves and 1 longbow called "the stick". I was amazed at how light they all were. I have never shot anything but a compound.

I personally would rather shop online.  I HATE crowds which is why I chose archery as a passtime and then traditional became a passion.
I humbly follow in the learned footsteps of those who precede me.

You are just at the beginning of a journey which will help mold you and fill the noisy voids within your soul. Half the fun is learning all the new things, asking questions, and weeding through all the different answers you'll get.  With time comes knowledge and understanding.   :notworthy:

This is a great site and before long you will find one of the many fantastic members will step up and offer help, something which has most likely happend. You will find lots of information on this site, weather you just read the posts or ask the questions.

Brutus if I could find a local club I would check it out. I am 20 miles west of Clarksville, TN.

Pointy Sticks I am already considering building my own bow but not until I learn to shoot. I was a die maker for ford motor so I do have some skills at building things

Thanks for all the resplies and help everyone

The good news is you won't need the tool box full of gadgets like you had for your compound ;0) Once you buy the essentials, you can pretty much just keep yourself in arrows and keep shooting.

I shop online...or on the phone while looking at a website. Try Ron LaClairs Traditional Archery...he can answer any question, Kustom King, Tim and Gabby will walk you through it all and give you honest answers, and 3Rivers..Todd is a great wealth of information.

The other good news is that none of it is rocket science, you will do just fine. Post on here with any product questions, you will get honest answers.

I realized that was a challange as well.

I bought like two dozen wood arrows and started making my own.

Ordered a few strings and said....hey I'll twist my own....

The real DOWNFALL is it will bite you. I just finished making my 7th bow....A 3 piece longbow.

Besides online shopping I'll go to the trad shoots and stock up at the vendor booths.

8, did you call Tom?  My day was messed up with running guys to and from the airport early in the AM, ended up sleeping most of the afternoon.   Gonna be up late now LOL  If ya didn't I'll call him and forewarn him you're calling  :D !

I'd call him during the week though.  He's big into sauger fishing on days off and weekends, and some days afterwork.
