Full Shooting Glove for Cold Weather Suggestions
« on: December 13, 2008, 04:45:00 PM »
It was 15 degrees when I climbed onto my treestand and 19 degrees when I climbed down 5 hours later.  My body was warm, my feet were warm, however, my hands were not.  I have put my tab over my Under Armour liner gloves but that is not the best remedy since they tend to move around when I shoot.

Three Rivers used to offer a Dura Glove Xtreme but it is no longer on their website.  Will some type of regular leather glove work?  What do you guys do?

Go get a pair of the deerskin palm construction gloves from HD or lowes, the ones that feel like a wetsuit. Thats what I use at the JLMBH and the first year I went it was snot-freezing cold.
Chemical handwarmers in an outer pocket/hand muff might end your problem too, but thats more movement.

Get a full glove and some hand warmers.. I like body warmers if the wind is going to be blowing,,Where I'm hunting now its almost knee high snow ,, wishin I had some snow shoes,,LOL,, But I've tried many things and I find just and simple jersy glove while sitting and a couple hand warmers is all I need,, If I move I'll use  a wool mitten. over that hand and in my other hand I have some of those flip over glove/mittens  and inside the mitten part I put a toe warmer,, Smaller and they have a sticky back so they stay in that mitten when I flip it open to take my shot,,Hope this helps and  have fun in the cold,,JB

Here is what I use. They have magnets instead of velcro to hold open. No noise at all. My tab fits over the thin camo lining and the mitten closes over the tab perfectly. The hand warmer fits into the back of the glove and zips closed. The palm also has ribs so I can grip my bow...Best 25.00 Ive spent in a long time.

I do use hand warmers when it gets cold.  But there is a lot of movement necessary to get into shooting position.  I'd much rather be in position since I often hunt where the deer is on me before I know they are there.

I can't picture gloves that are like a wetsuit with deerskin palms.  I check it out next time I go to Lowe's.  I guess any deerskin glove would work?

I have an XL Big Shot that stretched out on me. I wear it over a kid skin glove and my hand stays warm. It 1 degree in the woods this afternoon.

In really cold weather, I use a muff with a hand warmer inside and don't wear gloves, just my shooting glove.  No problem to get my hands out quickly and grab my bow, which is between my legs vertically or on my lap horizontally when I'm sitting.

I use a pair of Army surplus mitten liners (wool) , the ones with a trigger finger , although that really doesn't matter. I wear my regular shooting glove inside the right one. Need comes , just slip off the mitten liner and you are good to go. Mittens keep the hand warmer than gloves.

Hey blind one,,those are just about exzactly the same gloves I have,,that magnet is really nice,,no noise in the still winter woods. and those warmers go right in there,, Now I did find a heater hunting coat and thought about picking it up for the late season but I'm still using my wool and my layers,JB

I use wool gloves and cut the finger tips off my String fingers. This way I just slide my hand w/ shooting glove on and done.

I use a number of weight gloves when hunting from very light weight lycra gloves from cabelas, fleece gloves from walmart and wool gloves from US Army.  It all depends on temp.  In each case I use my shooting glove and cut the first 3 fingers off on the shooting hand glove.  Just pull glove on over the shooting glove.

I usually keep shooting hand in a pocket until it's time to get 'r done.

i use my regular glove, but i wear a muff style handwarmer around my waist like quarterbacks wear when its cold. i put a couple handwarmers in the muff and i'm ready to go, even when its really cold. since the warmer is down on my lap when sitting there is very little movement to slip my hand out when i need too, although i haven't really had to worry about the this year. haven't seen many deer.

With a tab, the best recourse is a mitten that folds back at the palm.  Walmart sells them for about $7.00.  You keep them closed until you are ready to shoot, then they open and fold back away, and stick to the back of the mitten with velcro.  Best option I ever used for tab shooting.

I saw some of those the other day.  I think I'll give the fingerless mittens a try with my tab.  I'll also try some of the other ideas and see what works best at different temps.  Thanks for all the replies, you've given me some good ideas.

What George said. However, they work equally well with a damascus glove underneath also. It's a great setup. (nut)

I use the nomex flyers gloves with 1/2 finger rag wool gloves for cold weather and just the flyers gloves for the rest of the season

jay,(jkidd) i tried pm'ing you, but your box is full.
I have one on the classified ads if your interested. It's a size medium.
the add title is cold weather shooting glove.
It's like the one from 3-rivers, only has leather reinforced finger stalls instead of nylon.

I use a thin Smartwool glove and try to keep my hand in my pocket or muff.  The Samrtwoolis very thin, but plenty warm to loo thru binocs or be ready for a shot.
