Well Wood ya......
« on: December 21, 2008, 11:58:00 PM »
Pardon the pun but I just bought a new to me Voodoostik from the classifieds on here. The Bow has some beautiful woods, African Blackwood/Tambootie riser. My current bow has a leather grip, the Voodoostik does not! Not sure if I want to cover up the riser. Would you cover it up or shoot it the way it is???

If it feels good in the hand and you shoot it to your satisfaction I would leave it alone. Very nice looking bow

Also another option would be to have it stippled.

Yep, besides nothing like hunting naked!

I don't see the African black wood though. It's used to make clarinet and other woodwind instruments, should be black as night.
Just this Alaskan's opinion

A "Bow Saddle" give the feel you are used to without covering all of the beauty of the wood.

Get them at 3Rivers or some of our sponsors.

When in doubt, google it   :D

Didn't know myself but it seems stippling is painting/drawing/ingraving in dots or short strokes.

Rick, the black wood goes from a dark purple to a brownish like the wood in mine. Its never really Black so to speak. The bowyer said it was the rarest piece he has ever had!

Fella hung around here did it on the side...instead of "checkering" it's very precision "dents" in the wood..with a rounded awl... in a pattern that improves grip. I wish I'd have had my recurve done when he was doing it...very nice looking if done well...and very functional in improving grip.
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

very nice African woods there the Tambootie popular among wood carvers in Southern Africa.

However if this wood is burned it gives of noxious fumes that are very dangerous if inhaled and will also contaminate food if you cook over it.

so if your in a survival situation DONT burn that bow to keep you warm lol    "[dntthnk]"    :p

if you could get someone to do some nice checkering on there that would be sweet.
There is more to the Hunt.. then the Horns

Well I went out today and shot the bow with out a leather grip on it, I was pleased. I have a grip on the way, I'll lace it on and see how it shoots that way before I decide!
