When I lived in an apartment I had a long hallway that had a linen closet at the end of it before it branched into two bedrooms. I used to store my two bag targets in the bottom of the linen closet. When I wanted to shoot I just opened the door and shot from the kitchen. I shot over the counter top and down the hallway, about 10-12 yards.
When purchasing a house in an area that had laws forbidding shooting bows in the city limits I bought a house with an unfinished basement that was 69 feet long. I studded up and drywalled a faux wall five feet off of the foundation wall. I put a compressed layer target at one end and hung a door on the other. I had a great 20 yard indoor range in my basement for several years. Sadly, a divorce brought about the end of my personal range. She got the house and I lost access to my range.
I still shoot a shot or two in my basement but now live about 7 minutes from our archery club and its indoor range. I can leave the house, shoot til I am worn out, visit with some buddies and still be back home within an hour.
