40# bear grizzly setup?????

i am trying to tune a 40# 1969 bear grizzly.
could someone let me know if 9 1/8" is an ok brace height? i dont know what kind of string it has. its not twisted, its just straight strands. so i dont think i can do anything with it.
also, i shot some full length gt 35-55 with 125 grain tips and they almost came off sideways. so im not sure what i should do.
thanks in advance. jamie

9 1/8 seems too high. You have an endless loop string. Since the strands are already not twisted, you can't untwist it to lower your brace height. You'll need to get another string. If your bow is marked 58 inches, you'll need a 55-inch flemish string. I don't know a lot about carbons, but your shafts are probably too stiff for that bow.

I like to brace my Grizzly's at 8" Try a 200 gr point on those GT3555's and see how they fly. you may have to go more than that for tip weight, you may need to use 100gr brass inserts and the 125gr points to get them to fly out of that bow if your only pulling 40#'s.

If your bow is a 58" you will need a 54" string mine are twisted up to around 53.5 to get the 8" brace.

my bow says 56" so does that mean i would need a 52" string? i got this bow CHEAP, i relly like it, but its nothing that i would ever shoot myself. but, i would like to find a 50-60lb grizz. or kodiak. they are a nice feelin bow.

Yes 52" will do. Get a B50 string don't use FF on a vintage bow. If you get a Flemish you can twist it up a bit to shorten it when it stretches out and when the wax settles in.

Depending on your draw and arrow length, you may want some 1816 arrows with a 125 grain point. That kind of bow is one that you can shoot all day at stumps or 3D. Great to work on form with, also. A bow like that can make shooting fun again!
