Was wanting some feedback from quinn shooters, how are they as far as quietness, compared to wood riser bows/ thanks.

buckster

I find them very quiet and have more than my share of wood bows.

I install a bit of wool in the string loops and make my own wool silencers.  All you hear is a very slight thud.

Buckester you beat me to it. This is the same thing I do to my 2 stallions, and limbsavers at the fadeouts, bottom of limb. Dead quiet.

My Quinn Stallion has a BH of 8" and I've put rubber 'whiskers' at the quarter-nodes of the bowstring. 550 to 680 grain arrows come out with a nice thunk from the D-97 string.

More on the quarter-nodes: I measure the bowstring's length from the  contact point at the upper limb to the contact point of lower limb . In my case, this is from brush button to brush button. This length is divided by four & the whiskers are placed at this quarter-point, measured down from the brush button(s).

If you're using cat-whiskers, always remove the cat first, then do the tying-on.

thanks guts for the info.happy new years.

My Stallion still seems loud to me. I have a fast flight string on it with wool puffs and wool on the string where it contacts the limbs (Apex Predator's method that he posted a while back). I shoot 3-fingers under and I'm beginning to think it has more to do with my release.

Shifting Shadow

I can't remember my Stallion being loud. Fast and smooth, yes.

One bow. One arrow. My ideal.

Does yours have cork between the limbs and riser? It should. My stallion is very quiet with no string silencers at all. Don  :)

Yeah, mine has the cork, but it still seems really "twangy". I'm pretty sure I pluck the string though, and I think I need to play with the brace height more. Otherwise it's been an awesome bow, especially for the price.

I've got a Stallion classic coming in 3 weeks, where do you guys set your brace height at?
Anybody shoot off the shelf? I saw something on the sight about using a small piece of peep tubing under the rest, is that the rest or the strike plate? Any other Quinn tips that differ from setting up any other bow?
Thanks

My brace height is exactly 8 inches to the center of the bow string. The rubber tubing goes behind the strike plate leather, as if using a berger button. I cut a piece about a half inch long and put it under the leather, straight down below the plunger hole in the center of the riser. My brace height started out a 7 7/8. I barly had to move it to get good flight. I'm also using a bear hair rest off the shelf. I love this bow. It's a great shooter. Warning, the metal riser gets real cold. I'm gonna have to wrap the grip. You will like your new bow for sure. Good luck, Don   :)

JSimon, just a thought: Are you sure your not shooting to light of an arrow?

Brush buttons and wooly whispers works for me. As far as cold grip, I have been putting a chemical handwarmer under my rubber grip where the handle has a little pocket on the outside. Just a great bow, best deal going.

JSimon,

Also, maybe try getting a little less meat on you pointer finger when you pull the string back and see if this quietens out your release some?

jsimon, it seems to me,this may just be my experience, but when i hear someone shoot 3-under the bow seems louder.

JSimon

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm not exactly sure what my arrows weigh, but I shoot 32.5" carbons with 225 grains up front so they should be pretty good. This is my only bow, so I don't have anything to compare it to. It's possible I'm being overly critical of the noise too. I haven't had a chance to shoot the last few days but I'm going to try to work on my release more. Too much pressure on my pointer finger might be the problem, since I'm almost shooting two under with the most pressure on my pointer and middle finger. I could be torqueing the string. I might try spit finger and see what that sounds like.

Jsimon, ive had some bows that sounded loud to me when i would shoot them, but i would have someone stand out about 20 yards or so, and they would tell me the bow was'nt loud.Im picky about quirtness but ive been told im TOO picky.
