Nebraskans-turkey ?

I am thinking about giving the Nebraska early bow season for turkey a try this spring. Been on the conservation dept.site and have done some other searches, but would like to hear from some tradgangers as well. state/public ground, wma's, camping areas, anything you care to share. Figuring on going as cheap as possible and hoping to meet with some tradgangers if any are close by or on the way. Thanks in advance! Mike

Nebraska has a wealth of public land that is filled with turkeys. I hunt Neb every spring. Check out the states DNR website, specifically the part listing all of the WMA's. The site tells you where it is , how many acres it is, what type or terrain and vegitation and whether camping is allowed. If you stay for a week or more , you will find that once mmonday comes you will literally have th eplace to your self. Plus you can shoot more than one tom!Good luck

Depending on how far into the state you want to drive if you stay south of I-80 and east of hwy
81 there is plenty of public land and tons of birds. Also if you come before shotgun season way less people in the woods.
Good Luck

i agree eastern Ne has numerous birds and public ground. Also along the Niobrara river in the northern part of the state has lots of birds also. Beautiful country up there. Try to get up there at least once during the spring.

For some reason I cannot figure out, my deer spots in eastern NE have almost no turkeys. But I know that's the exception rather than the rule. My brother says SW NE is just loaded with turkeys, and I also know NW NE (Pine Ridge area) has a bunch, as does the north-central/Niobrara river areas. I think the public ground in this state is way underutilized during the early-archery part of the turkey season. As others have stated, get here before the shotgun season starts for the best hunting.

Hey Mike you come down and hunt with me and Broken Arrow 1 and I'll be able to make a string the right size for yer bow my friend! Shouldn't be too hard to set up a hunt there's lots of birds in these parts! Week before shotgun starts is the best.

Todd, Sounds like a plan.......Broken Arrow 1 is going to send me some info on an area he is failiar with. I am starting to think this may work out pretty well! This will be the first "vacation" that I've had in 6 years and what better way to spend than bowhunting turkeys with new friends! Thanks, Mike
