I'm going to be doing some weekend trips with my sons to shoots, 3D events, etc. Wondering how you keep the bows from heat damage in a parked truck or car during the day?

Make sure it is unstrung. Keep the direct sun off of it, a case or bow sock would also help. The trunk would be better if it fits. The glass in the cab brings the heat up fast. I lost a good old Bear bow that way. If possible, don't leave it in the car or truck. The temperature can easily peak out higher than the hot box the bow was cured in. When that happens the glue can let go.

My concern exactly. So maybe better if I keep it under the topper and keep some vents open in the topper. Then of course you have the theft issue.

When it gets very hot,I tote my bow around a lot.When I do leave it in the van,it is unstrung and wrapped in an old blanket.Even then I'll go back and feel the limbs to see how warm they are getting every couple hours.

Also leave the windows down a little and park in the shade if possible.

Every little bit helps I guess. Does wrapping it keep it cool? It would keep the sun off, for sure.

I have a friend who is a big compound shooter and he Made a box and lined it with the foam insulation he said his bow never gets warm.  I trust the guy but I would rather you test this yourself before you leave an expensive bow in it on my recomendation.  Heck you could even throw in a couple of those freezer packs it woulb be like a bow cooler.  He does this to prevent string stretch if you are wondering.

Just let the windows slightly opened, and store them in a sleeping bag.  It will help insulate and the temperature won't get above curing temp.  You must leave the windows slightly open though for heat to flow out.  I keep a four pound sleeping bag in the back of my truck, and even on the hottest days it insulates the bows.

A takedown bow in a big cooler is a good idea. There are some softside coolers that would work well, but the hard sided models are better. The sleeping bag is a good idea too. My favorite suggestion would be get a full set of sun shields for all the windows in your vehicle. There are  places that make reflective insulated sun shields custom fit to the windows of your vehicle, or you can buy the material and cut your own. If you put up those shields in all the windows of your vehicle, it will never get very hot. Plus, no one can see inside to know what they might be able to steal. The shades are a little bulky, but not bad. They will also keep the vehicle cooler for your body and everything else stored in the vehicle and will protect the entire interior from UV light. Most places sell a set of windshield and front seat shields, but you can order ones to fit all the windows. You will end up paying somewhere between $50 and $200 depending on how many windows you have, but it is money well spend for the protection you get from sunlight and heat. You will not have any problems with your bows unless you leave your car sitting out in the middle of the desert in the summer or something equally unwise. In that situation you need a hard insulated cooler with frozen cooling packs inside.    :cool:

A sleeping bag is a big, soft cooler, and fairly cheap....like me.
