Which setup would you use?
« on: January 02, 2009, 10:29:00 PM »
Hey guys, Just wondering what some other peoples thoughts are on 2 different setups that I am considering.  Before I get started this is NOT a debate on types of broadheads.

Setup 1: 28" Easton Epic 400, 250 grain broadhead, total arrow weight around 535-540 grains.

Setup 2: 31"Easton Epic 340, 300 grain broadhead, total arrow weight 655 grains.

Both setups are EFOC,fly well, and are accurate.  My bow is  66" 21st Century longbow around 53-54lbs at my draw.  I am hunting mostly whitetail deer, the mighty squirrel, turkey, and when I get lucky wild hogs.  I am using 160 grain Snuffers and 160 grain Magnus I's right now, but think the lighter setup may give me more room to try different broadheads.

I'd love to hear thoughts or comments.  Mark

I think both would work great on the animals you hunt, the 340's wuld be heavier but there would be more oscillation of the arrow on impact also because of the added length and weight, but I think it would be a personal choice

Shoot the one "you" like the best.  Either will work fine, but I have a feeling one will feel better to you for both effeciency and shootability.

Personally, I'd go with the 400's.  They have proven to be better for me with lighter weight bows.  The 340 would work better, IMHO with a heavier bow.(65#+)  I shoot 160 grain heads and even 190's with 100 grain brass inserts and also put weedeater line in the carbon shaft.

Thanks for the input guys.  I think both will work fine, it really is a matter of opinion I guess.  Some guys that work for me bought me a gift card to the local archery shop for christmas, so I gotta decide.  I was thinking that if I ever want to try the Woodsman or a couple other broadheads, that 250 grains is as heavy as they'll go.  Mark
