I bought some Bear Grizzlies getting started for less than $100. Hard to beat a classic bow for less than $100. JMHO

The Martin should be a good bow, esp at $200, but 55 lb is pretty heavy for a first bow.  If you have to strain at all to draw and hold for several seconds, I'd suggest trying to find a lighter bow, like 40-45 lb.  Heavy bows easily lead to bad form habits.

i agree with fletcher,i'd stay between 40-50lb.keep your eye on this sites used bows and that way you can better match poundage with draw lenght.don't get in a hurry.

55# is pretty heavy -  do you draw 28"  if so I'd look at a lower poundage. 45-50#

I shot a 73# compound so when I went traditional I started with a 60# recurve. Big mistake. I couldn't shoot it well at all. I finally borrowed a 53# bow and have since had 2 pass throughs on deer. I am way more comfortable at that weight and obviously don't need additional at least for me.

Good luck
