Prepping a deer hide
«

This is My SIL AKA Josh-u-a here on Tradgang. He is learning how to cure a deer hide.
I started trad this year and this is the first doe I shot. I wanted to do something to remember this deer for a long time so I decided to make a quiver.
We have her fleshed out and salted down. Hope the quiver turns out ok. I have a 2nd doe but don't know what to do with that hide yet. Any ideas?

I tried to tan the hide of my brothers first deer this year. With no mentor or anything it didn't turn out so well :(
Oh well, it was my first time and there will be plenty more:D
I recommend you make some soft buckskin gloves. Look for the book DeerSkins into BuckSkins by ___ Richards (forgot the first name).

PAC Check out the McKensie web site. they have tanning kits for just about every thing. Clear and easy instructions and not too $$$. I did the bear hide I got this year. A hell of alot of work but it turned out supriseingly good. Don
