fletching height vs lenght
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:29:00 PM »
i was wondering if two fletching of the same overall area one being longer and lower vs short and tall,  im thinking that the short ones would have more surface area farther twards the rear of the shaft wich should stabilize faster but i would think that they would posible make a bit more noise which means some drag and a little less speed.  your thoughts?

Sounds reasonable.  The longer, lower will do better in a crosswind though, precisely because it has less drag, at least that's my guess.  On the other hand, there's the same amount of surface for the wind to act upon.  Think we need an aeronautical engineer for this one.

Both will do the job and you probably won't notice the difference  unless you are one hell of a target shooter.

I used to try 4" four fletched vs 5" 3 fletch thinking that the four fletch would be more feather.  Found that they both work, crazy huh!  that said I like the regular banana fletch really well for stabilizing big broadheads and wet weather.

Jason,

What kind of bird did the feathers come from?

Is it from those ducks you killed in the opener?

I do Eastern Turkeys. I think you might get two 4". But the oil line isn't really good for that. Did some Geese but they seemed alittle soft. Everytime I see a RedTail Hawk hit by car or truck, I'm tempted!!
