Hey, I spoke of the head a bit, but should give a little shout for the bowyer as well. Scott Nicholson (Jumper) from North Pole, AK made it for me. It is shooter too! He has taken many measures to get above average performance out of a very forgiving bow that is good in the hand and little if any hand shock.
The bow is bamboo core limbs with cocobolo veneers, quilted maple riser and moose antler tip and riser overlays. Looks as good as it shoots.
To practice I had one shaft out of the same dozen I hafted the stone point to and mounted a field tip on it. I figured after the glue and sinew were added through the hafting process this head weighed about 125 grains. I had little time to practice and limited my shots to less than ten yards. I felt good at fifteen, but ten and under were no worries. I punched the target nearly everyday for a few weeks before the shot came and this process worked out in the long run.
I called Scott from the woods to let him know and caught him walking out of the grocery store with his wife. She was excited when he told her the news, but insisted at -42F the rest of the story could wait until the groceries were loaded and they were in the car!
I did not realize it, but this was the first blood drawn with one of his bows. It just kept getting sweeter as this one unfolded. Another reason shared by manny of you that keeps us drawn to the Traditional way of the hunting experience.
