Serving a string

I've never re-served a string...but I'm going to! I just need to know what size (diameter) serving material to use! I think that I want to use the Diamondback material, but I'm not sure what size. I see that it is offered in .018, .022 and .030.  I'll be re-serving a 16 strand polyester string that had the mono (plastic) serving, and I'd like to keep the diameter the same so I don't have to re-size all of my Beman 400 arrow knocks.

I use Fast Flite or Dynema .022" to .026", depending on the bow...

CBH if you are just reserving a factory string thin use .22 .if you want it a little bigger use a peace to underlay your serving..

Whilst your at it, can someone point me to a link on HOW to serve a string properly, and how best to determine the diameter?   :confused:

You need to experiment to find the proper size serving for the nock you are using. As for serving, do a search on the web there are a lot of tutorials online.  Just remember that you need to properly serve depending on if you are left handed or right. If you serve backwards the serving will loosen over time as your fingers pull on it. I place the top loop to my left for righties, and serve from left to right, coming over the top of the string towards you. To finish pull a loop out of the serving tool and move down the string a few inches, then serve about an inch back towards yourself in the same direction, inside the loop you made.  Place the serving string over the end of the serving already on the string and finish the serving by hand, unwinding the serving material as you finish, then pull the loop through, and tighten both ends..

For lefties reverse the serve, by having the serving tool going away from you over the top.

Be careful not to serve over the runout too much at the end.  When you have to pull your tag underneath, it gets darn near impossible if you overlay more than 1/3" (more like 1/4")
