Brian, now that right there is funny. Had the same thing happen to me. Here on Guam to hunt with archery tackle on Anderson AFB you have to pass a profeciency test,6 consecutive arrows in a 9" circle. Several years ago when I did my test, I broke out my longbow and quiver of arrows to take the test. One of the assistant Conservation officers saw my longbow and promptly asked, "Where are your sights" I politely told him "I do not need sights" to which he laughingly replied, " you are not gonna even hit that target" at which I replied, "What do you shoot?" it was the newest jazziest compound. I told him to go get his bow and when I was done with my test I would make him a bet that I could have 3 arrows in the target before he could have one in it. After he watched me shoot for my test he walked away and would not shoot with me,LOL.

Ron just let it happen, if he wants it it will come.

I think he may, just not as soon as you want.I turned my buddy and his younger brother on to bowhunting a few years ago. They both are born and raised rifle hunters, and they love to bow hunt, but not as much as rifle hunting (Because it's easier to empty the mag...            )My buddy surprised me one day while eyeballing and handing my Bear Montana saying,"Maybe I should get a recurve"

Surprised the heck out of me.I don't seriously think he ever will. But he expressed a little intrest in it so I push VERY little.Just occasionaly.  :archer:

I made the switch while shooting 3D shoots.A friend that I shot with bought a older Bear and we would shoot a fun round after the compound cards were turned in. It was so much fun no Binos no pressure if we hit foam that was a 12. That became more fun than the compounds,Haven't  picked up a compound In 2yrs still shoot alot of 3Ds though.

To introduce traditional I would suggest low poundage and just let them shoot.  They should get hooked liked the rest of us.  Don't forget the armgaurd.

I only use recurves, but nearly everyone I shoot/hunt with use compounds. If anyone with a trad bow said something this foolish to one of them, I would do everything possible not to be identified with that person. And I would thoroughly enjoy the ensuing show.

It's kind of like flyfishing.  Everyone just doesn't get it.  It's not really the easiest way.  It just takes a certain person.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

You can only show a good example.

If he shows interest and only when he shows interest set him up with a bow and arrow combination that is tuned to shoot good.  Let him proceed at his pace.  It will either take or not.

Reverse pyscology. Keep telling him he has the best equipment money can buy and with that equipment he will surely reach his goals. All the while you are shooting next to him and having fun and successful hunts with your bow. If he wants to go to it then he will. If not he won't.

Do you have a extra bow that he can shoot? If so, and he has the interest, I would set him up with a loaner that he can shoot, give him a quick tour of how everything works at the backstop and go stump shooting. If that don't do it, nothing will. Keep it light and fun. Just give him a taste and I'll be willin to bet he'll want more.

I got a guy at work who has the same kinda attitude- "They should ban those things....". He always has to have the new trick or bow out there. I just tell him, the recurve/LB has accounted for more meat/game in our history...

Hard to argue with that point.

Well, here goes, I like the opinions of most of the responses on this thread which say to each his own. I am still wondering if I am the only one who enjoys both traditional and compound bows. There is no reason to choose one over the other if you enjoy both. If you want to introduce trad. to a friend just shoot your bow and have a good time with him/her and if they become interested then great, and if not continue the freindship of bowyers

I've never tried to push any of my friends into switching over, but some of them have.  I help them with whatever I can when they ask for it.  In fact I'm building the best set of wood arrows I can for a buddy of mine who made the switch last year as a surprise. but I never try to make them accept my opinions.  Works well that way.
