I have this recurve and the limbs are very bad on it but the riser is very nice looking, is it possible to convert this into a takedown by removing the old limbs? I am just wondering if anyone has ever done this? The riser is very thick like a takedown.

Looks like those limbs were just glued onto the riser so, to answer your question, yes, it probably is possible to take off those limbs and replace them with others.

My guess is if you can get a square cut right down the inside glue line it would be possible.

You might want to do a little research first. Looks to me like it's a Bud Hit bow, and fairly collectible.

Those limbs almost look like the multicam limbs that were also on the Stewart bows?

Henry,
Please don't cut on that bow untill you've done a little research.
Post pics in the History and Collecting section and you'll likely learn some interesting facts about the bow.

I'm with Owlbait. That looks like a Stewart bow to me and those limbs are supposed to look that way.

Strange looking bow. Looks like the riser was made specifically for bolt on limbs...Van

Those limbs look fine to me, looks like an intentional design. I have seen several makes of bows including the current Horn recurve with similar shaped limbs. Take the advise of others who recommended posting on the History/Collecting forum for more info on that bow.

Thanks for the advice guy's, the limbs look worse in person but maybe it would be wise to do some checking. I don't shoot this bow anymore cause the glue is starting to let loose where it connects to the riser it has been painted so I don't find a name on the bow but it has a serial number and is marked with the weight @28". Thanks again I was just curious cause I love the feel of this handle and thought maybe I could make it a more functional bow..

Isn't Mr Hit selling the last of his bows on the Bay?
You might be able to track down the guy who made that bow.
Pretty cool bow

Bud is retired but makes a bow every once in a while and puts it on the bay.

Whew! Glad you checked it out before you put a saw to it......I just saw this thread so I'm glad others got to ya' before I had a chance to chime in.
That bow is a nice piece of archery history, glad to see you will be treating it as such.
