Hello all,

I recently came into the possession of a Martin Rebel Recurve bow. I already have a couple of trad recurves that I use instinctively. However, I plan to hunt turkeys with the Rebel, and I do not quite feel I have the skill to take a small game animal instinctively, yet. I want to put a stick-on, flipper-style rest on the bow, but I would like one that keeps the arrow away from the side of the bow. Do any manufacturers make such a rest? I noticed that most flipper rests keep the arrow snug to the wall of the window. I thought about drilling a hole in the riser to put a bushing for a plunger-rest, but I have heard that will cause stress cracks in the riser. Any help with this would be great.

"Neet" makes a very nice version of the old Hoyt Flex Rest... they were as good as it gets. It will keep your arrow away from the side of the bow.
Call Mike Orton at the "Nocking Point" (sponsor), he's got them.

Drilling for a cushion plunger shouldn't cause stress cracks. The fit between bushing and drilled hole should be perfect. If too loose it's a sloppy fit and if too tight it might cause a crack on installation.

TK,  I use the old flipper rest on most of my bows.  I need approximately 3/16" relief from the side of the bow so I use the thick double sided tape on my rest to achieve that.  As for adding a plunger.  If you pilot drill the riser and then add a brass bushing I don't believe you will get stress cracks.  I have an 80# Howatt that I added a plunger to 21 yrs. ago and there's no cracks in her.

The Bear Weather rest is also built out to keep the arrow away from the sight window. It's about indestructible and dirt cheap.
