Dwyer orThunderstick
« on: March 11, 2007, 03:38:00 PM »
For those who have shot them I was just curious about the differences between a Dwyer Dauntless and a Thunderstick MOAB. How do they compare in regards to noise (most important) and performance?
thanks,
 Tom.

I'ne never shot a Dwyer but the Thundersticks are awesome!! I had a Mag that was 60#@28 and I very regretfully traded it a year ago.
Just one more step please!

I was just looking at the Thunderstick website and the MOAB isn't listed anymore. Does that mean Jim isn't making it anymore? If so, sure hope you wasn't planning on ordering a new one. I have never shot either so I can't help you out with your question.

if you have them set up correctly with a heavy arrow neither bow makes any noise

I'm a Dwyer fan.  Great bows and great people to work with. I have a 62" Defiant that is about as quiet a bow as I've ever shot. (Have an original on the way too (thanks AKDan!  :)  )  )
The Dauntless is a great bow and is on my short list.

Haven't shot a thunderstick but they look great too.  Buy both !   ;)

I have never shot the thunder stick. But I have Dwyer 64" 56lb longbow and a 64" 65lb on order. I love the Dwyer, the longbow version is the quietest I have ever shot.

Dwyer's are very quiet.I shoot a Dwyer Original Longbow 66" and #58 @ 27" shooting heavy Birch arrows.

Haven't shot a Thunderstick so I can't comment on them.

Well I have owned and shot both.  Had a Dauntless that I sold and still kick myself over.  Sweet bow.  Have a MOAB that is the cat's meow.  Don't know if I have shot a bow more accurately in the last several years.

They are really two different kinds of bows.  They don't feel the same on the draw or the shot.  The MOAB is smooth, but builds weight rapidly and can feel to some like it is more weight.  The Dauntless builds at a slower pace and is smooth.  The Dwyer might get the nod in the silence department, but set up properly they are both relatively quiet.  I would say that, hands down, the MOAB is faster.  The MOAB would probably get a slight nod on handshock/vibration after the shot.  While people say that they don't have any, all bows have some, either of these two models would have minimal shock and or vibration.

My Dwyer was the original longbow model 68" 59#@28" it was quit and pertty qick even with a heavy shaft. Like some others have said they are really smooth, dead in the hand and look really good. The only reason for selling was I need to reduse weight.

I have had two Thunderstick Mag's and really liked them also in fact I wish I still had them both, the grips are great. Mine were not as eye appealing as Dwyers but I would recommend both.

Thanks for all of the opinions. I had a 64" Dwyer longbow which was the quietest bow I ever shot. I sold it but am now kicking myself and am looking for another longbow. Thanks again for  all the feedback.
Tom.
