Field point sizes

Yet another newb here.  

Have a question about arrows and field points.  I'm still looking for a wood arrow for my longbow that can handle my rudimentary shooting form.

The carbons and aluminum ones I have do fine, but I want to go with wood.  

Have some in a spine test kit that are measuring 23/64 in diameter.  Figured I'd taper and glue myself as I want to get into making my own down the road.

I ordered field points that are 23/64 on the package yet they are identical in size and appearance to the 11/32 points I already had lying around.  The holes measure out the same, 11/32. Are they supposed to be that way or did I get a bunch of 11/32 points in an bag marked 23/64?  The tapered point is supposed to go how far into the field point?  

Am I making this more difficult than I should??

We have lots of shops around here where I can get all sorts of help with compound tackle but when I've asked about traditional gear I get shrugs.

They're close, but not the same. I'd say if they don't fit fully onto the taper that you got some mismarked points. Your supplier should make it right with you, if they are a reputable dealer.

Like scattershot said.  It sounds like you need to exchange those mismarked 11/32 points for some 23/64 points.

Orygun - I make my tapers long enough so that the taper "tip" is  just  shy of bottoming out inside the point. Clean the inside of your points really well too - glue & dirt don't mix.

Most glue-on field points have the diameter and weight stamped on the side of the point.  If neither set has that, it's difficult to say who sent you what, i.e., the first set may have been 23/64 or the second set may have been 11/32.  A point taper of about 7/8 inch will almost bottom out in the point.  Broadheads usually take a somewhat longer taper.
