If you look in your NY game sylabiss it specifically states that it is illegal to make a mineral or salt lick for deer.

It used to be legal here in NY...until they had those few CWD cases near Oneida. Now it is illegal to put out anything for deer.
When it was still legal, we had the red mineral blocks(from a feed store) and it brought in everything from coons to bears and all in between.

These states in the northeast have some of the most idiotic rules ever though up, no feeding , no baiting, so we let them all die in the winter. Mineral licks are good for your bucks and does in the spring before fawns are dropped and antler grown, they help promote healthier deer and beter racks because skelital struckture is were it should be at the right ages. So we here have to keep having small racked bucks and smaller than normal bodies cause some nimrod thinks he knows everything, cause thats what it says in a text book, ask any biologist such as James Kroll or Charles Alshmier if there benefical see what you get for an anwser. When we had to stop winter feeding here it only took 1 year to see the difference in our bucks with no mineral licks and no suppliment feeding, I am suprised we can even use food plots and cut trees if not I would not keep our lease and probally not waste to much time here, our deer are getting beat up right noe with snow, good thing we kill every coyote that steps foot on our land. To anwser you question we used whitetail addiction in the liquid form cause it had a pungent smell and once established keep it going with the powder. Chris
