Help! Longbow or Recurve and what kind??

My husband has started a collection of both longbows and recurves.  I know he's shoots RH at about 50lbs.  I don't know what his draw lenght is though.  I'd like to buy him something he can use, and add to his collection.  I have no idea what makes a bow collection worthy.  I can just tell you if they're "pretty"!

Hard to beat an old Bear.  Classifieds usually will have one for sale, and normally for less than $300.

Sorry if this sounds like a really stupid question, but I've seen Polar Bear bows, is that what you are referring too?  I've also seen some Howard Hill bows that are just beautiful.

I appreciate the craftsmanship of the bows.  The more unique, whether in wood type or color the more attractive I find them.  I would spend more if something like that came my way.

Ok, you could look at the Quinn bows[ go to Quinn archery's site] ,You can get a quinn stallion for around 275.00[it is a metal riser]. quinn makes a wood riser takedown called the longhorn for about 300.00. I dont think you'd get a better bow for the money. You could look at the MARTIN ARCHERY x-200 model recurve, it is around 300.00. That is about all i can think of in that price range. I might add you dont have to spend 5 or 6 hundred to get a good bow. I personally would go with the quinn stallion 62 inch at 45-50 pounds[it's a metal riser], if you want a wood riser bow ,get the quinn longhorn. Hope i helped you. gOD BLESS.

Polar is the name, Bear is the brand. There's many more Bear bows..like the grizzly, hunter, tigercat, kodiak magnum and so on...very nice bows that any fella would appreciate. Also, you should have no problem getting one with a $300 budget.

i'M SORRY, I ASSUMED YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT A NEW BOW. You could get an older Bear, or ben pearson for around 100 to 175.00. You can look on the classifieds on this site or ***********.

I've bought both an old Bear Kodiak Hunter and an old Ben Pearson in the past few months for $160 and $120, respectivly.  They are both in great shape, look good, and shoot well.  I haven't checked the classifieds on here (I'm afraid I'll find something else I want!!), but on **** you can search for "Bear Recurve" or "Bear Longbow" and find plenty of listings.  I imagine the same would be true here as well.  Just make sure they are right handed, and most will be, and that they aren't twisted or delaming.

Your husband is blessed to have a wife that understands his adiction. Don't discount getting him a custom armgard (bracer), a dozen customized arrows, a new quiver etc.
These are things he will use EVERY TIME he goes shooting. Good luck and God bless

Everyone here will suggest that you buy "their" favorite bow.  If you want to find out what your hubby would like, ask him.  Not directly, if you don't want to, but ask him about what he likes to shoot and why, the bow he would like to have, etc.  If he is as into it as most of us are, you'll know withing 15 minutes exactly what he wants by name, length and poundage.  Good luck.

I have a question. Is he a collector or a shooter or both? Collectors often stick with a particular brand or type of bow. Shooters look for a bow that feels right to them. What bows does he have now? Do the risers (the grip part of the bow) look similar? If so, he may favor one grip (low wrist, medium or high wrist) over another. Again, if he is a collector, this might not matter. You could go with the unusual or hard to find bow for a collector or one that is particularly attractive to the eye. If you are looking for something he will be shooting and/or hunting with, you will need more information. The looks will be a lesser consideration, though still of some importance (no one wants an ugly bow).

We all have our opinions of the best bows, but if you look in the classified section you will see that bows change hands pretty regularly here. I have some that will stay with me (my Kanatis) and others that are nice, but I would part with them if something else caught my fancy. So don't get too caught up in what any of us recommend here. No one is trying to steer you astray, but we all have different tastes.

I applaud you for wanting to help your husband with his collection. The classified section here would be a good place to shop as most of the sellers here will do right by you (all have for me). If the bow is of good quality and condition, I don't think your hubby will be the least bit displeased! Find one you like the looks of and go from there.
