Dbl Bull hunting question
« on: March 13, 2007, 04:12:00 AM »
I've been told it's best to wear dark clothing while hunting (specifically turkey) out of a double bull.  But what about your face and hands?  Do you cover them to? Thanks

absolutely!    Your hand and bow are the closest thing to the window when drawn. Black gloves and a dark bow...black hockey tape works good. Just take it off after the season. I usually wear a dark camo headcover, but will be wearing a black one this year......

C'mon Guru, I wear a blue t shirt and no face or hand cover. I even use a sliver thermos and aluminum foil to wrap my extra donuts. Next you'll be telling us to use black thread in our string trackers.....

:notworthy:  ....aren't you supposed to be hunting   :campfire:

Dark colors definitely help, but obviously aren't neccessary. Last year was the first year I wore black, but that's because I was using my new Matrix with a big opening. When I had my T-5 I just wore dark camo.....

I've got a black fleece zip front turtleneck that I wear along with gloves and facemask that are a dark gray. Sometimes it gets warm in later May of our turkey season and for those hunts where the blind starts getting pretty toasty I wear black silk long underwear. It's very very thin (I think the term is "sheer") and works well when the temps go up and sun is shining on the blind.

Just funnin........

Actually I do wear a black t shirt but no face mask. I have a Matrix too and keep three sides open. You just can't see thru that mesh unless you peek thru the two 12 gauge holes Marty put in it.......

I thought the netting wasn't necessary with turkey.  I do all my deer hunting from trees or the ground.  Not to familiar with turkey.

ethan....

You kind of answered your own question.

If you are not using the netting...then absolutely...you must wear dark clothing...cover your hands...face....etc.

However, the netting covers a multitude of sins.  You are correct...turkeys don't mind the holes. (Movement in the holes bothers them.)  But...I still use the net.  It gives me a great deal of confidence when I begin my draw.  I still wear a face mask and gloves...because the encounters are usually pretty close range....and I don't want the slightest bit of movement rousing a turkey's attention.

When the journey becomes as valuable as the goal........go "traditional."
