Feathers hitting Riser (pics) Help Please...
« on: February 05, 2009, 04:40:00 PM »
Im shooting arrows with plastic feathers on them. NO not vanes, plastic feathers (I'm not sure of the proper name for them).

The problem Im having is they are hitting the riser/side of the shelf and getting torn up. Im using a home-made felt shelf. You can see where they are hitting. In the first pic. Also in the second pic look at the yellow feather VS the green feather on the edge.

Thanks for any advice!

If ya want to shoot plastic ones, get yourself a stick on elevated rest. Than ya can adjust your nocks for clearance issues. Shawn

Just curious, why plastic feathers instead of standard ones?

Uh, those are real feathers  :)   If they're wearing that quickly, you're most likely overspined.  Shooting cock-feather in with overspined arrows is a recipe for needing to replace feathers often.  My feathers don't start to look like that until after at least a season of using them hard.

The basic hobby store felt isn't very durable and wears very quickly.  The is a very dense felt available that wears better, but it's not very thin.

What bow and arrow setups are you using?

Those are REAL feathers, put a piece of leather or tooth pick on the shelf where your two pivot points are.

It should be at the same line as the deepest part of your throat on the riser, make it like an "L" so your arrow strikes on the same spot every time.

It looks like your real feathers are dragging across the shelf is all that's happening

Have you tried shooting cock feather in, or straight up like Black widow suggests?
