Using Teak In Riser?
« on: February 11, 2009, 10:25:00 PM »
Is there a good reason that I have never seen a bow with teak in the riser?  I know it is heavy but so are a lot of other woods that are used in risers.

My local hardwood supplier has some genuine teak that is dead sexy and I think it would look sweet in a bow.

Is there a reason not to use it?

I tend to think of teak as a heavy black walnut, except much oilier. I think a good riser and limb wood. I have some, but haven't made a bow out of teak, yet.

I have used it a couple of times. In a riser, and as strenghtening laminations on a recurve.
It becomes very nice when oiled and polished.

The teak i have had has been much too brittle to use as working wood, at least on the back.

Go to Howard Hill Archery's website and check out the Scirocco Limited Edition Bow, it has a Teak riser.
