Drilling Fiberglass

Hi, I'm new to bows in genral, and wanted to start off with a recurve. I have a '66 Bear ZTigercat at #45, and I'm also wanting to drill a hole in the fiberglass for a stabalizer bushing, i was wondering if this would be safe and not cause the bow to fail. It has 3 cracks above the handle, about 4 inces above it, all are under 2 inches. The stabalizer will be going in the standard position under the handle. How safe is this?


I Have an idea to put a arrow rest, as I don't like shooting off the shelf anymore. But all I can find is compound rests, and flimsy, plastic recurve rests. I think im going to drill my bow and put a compound rest on, unless anyone here has better ideas, that is.

DON'T DRILL THE BOW! Your just begging for severe lacerations.
 If you want all of those things in a bow, just find a bow that has them installed. A Coyote maybe?

Not to be too judgemental but sounds to me like you really want to be shooting a compound not a tarditional bow. Just reading between the lines maybe.

Well, I don't think drilling for the bushing would hurt anything, it's in the riser and not on a working part of a limb.
As far as elevated rests, look and see what 3Rivers or Kustom King have to offer.
Ever try an elevated feather rest like the old Bear bows had?  They work real nice and they stick on and peel off if you don't like them.  I would try that first.

It actually sounds to me like your wanting a "competition" style bow. OconeeDan has the right idea with 3rivers' stuff.

 I still would, however, be very careful with this whole drilling idea. I would certainly consult a bowyer on this.

There should be no problems putting in a stabilizer bushing. Three rivers probably has them. When drilling  be sure to put the bow in some sort of vise to get the proper angle. I would put masking tape over the glass to help on splintering. Use a sharp bit.

well, I found a mount for stabalizers, it straps on and I wasn't sure if it was stable enough. All i really want it for is bowfishing, and might try out a stabalizer. Also, if the feather rests work good, then I'll try it first. All I really wanted was to get my arrow off the shelf, as I can't find a material that doesn't mess with my arrow flight. I've tried compounds and the only thing I hate is the letoff....I just want as nice of a hunting recurve as I can put together, since hunting is hard enough around here. Thanks
