Chief Cornstalk and the Hunting Bows of the Shawnee??

I grew up in Mason County West Virginia 9 Miles from Point Pleasant. I was always fascinated by the history of that area, and just last week started thinking about Chief Cornstalk and the Battle of Point Pleasant. That thought sparked a desire to build a bow like Chief Cornstalk would have hunted with. I have the Bowyer's Bible that covers the dimensions of a Cherokee Bow, but was wondering if the Shawnee would have used a different design or not. BTW - From all the research I have done, Chief Cornstalk would have been a man I would have liked to have shared the deer and turkey woods with in the 1770's. He was also a man of HONOR! It is a real shame we dishonored him by murdering he and his son.

Anyway enough of that Historical rantings. LOL!!! Anyone done any research you would care to share about the hunting bows of the Shawnee.

Hay Carbon Caster.Im 11 miles from PT Pleasant LEON to be exat.Im think they would be the same dimensions .They were both woodland tribes..

Tank, have we met, your moniker sounds familiar?

I would think they would be the same as well, but I want to find out if anybody has done any actual research to prove otherwise.  BTW - I grew up just across the river from you in Southside.

I would say you could contact the people in Chillicothe, OH.
There is a Shawnee History Museum,Cultural Center and all that, there.

I know the name.  I grew up between the Williamson Saw Mill and the Beech Hill School on RT 35.

Did you work at an sporting goods shop at one time.  If so, I think I am remembering meeting you.

The Miami Indians home ground is where I grew up. About 45 miles east of Prophet Town in Lafayette.
And, US 35 runs right through Kokomo!!
The rich history of the Old Northwest Territory is sadly overlooked. Shawnee,Miami,Blackfeet,Ojibwa,Potowatamie.....
the revolutionary battle grounds,people and places!!

Yes Brain I was at buffalo outfitters for 6 years.I now run a shop in winfield the old chiefs place for the last 5 years.

Yep, I met you at the shop in Winfield back around the time you went there.  I live in Canada now, but my family still lives in Southside.  I bought some fishing gear and bait from you several times when I was fishing at the locks.  LOL!!!  I normally go home to visit for Thanksgiving.  I will try to stop in and properly introduce myself this year when I do.  Small World, huh?  LOL!!

I am still trying to track down some Shawnee Bow Specs.  I may have to visit the Chillicothe Museum when I come in this year as well.

I LOVE IT HERE!!!!  Sometime I miss the hills, the Kanawha and the hardwoods; but I still love it here.  Been here 3.5 years now so far and plan on spending the rest of my life here.  If you can figure out a way to get up here to hunt, DO IT!!!  You will not regret it.  BTW - you don't want to come up here fishing.  LOL!!!  My dad claims there are NO FISH in all of Alberta.  Better fishing there than anywhere close to here as far as I know.

I used to live in Glenwood near the Mason/Cabell Co. line. Hiked around Cheif Cornstalk a time or two, but never hunted it. Found some arrow heads on the river banks of the Ohio up in Mason too.


Don't know bout the Shawnee bows though,,, sorry!

If you hiked Cornstalk, you went right past my parents home to get there.  One of the last houses on the left before you turned on nine mile.  LOL!!!

If any of you turn over any sources for me, Please pass it on.  I am more than curious!
