When you say at 20 the groups go to heck what do you mean by that? Are you bare shafting?

Taken a few dozen deer w/ 525gr. arrows using 50#-60# recurves & LB's. You'll have no prob. w/ the arrow. As far as tuning your bow goes: have you tried raising your Brace Ht.?

im using the planning method. The group gets larger 2 fletched 1 bare. I can't cut anymore off the 500's to stiffen them.

Yes, i did experament with the bace height. Going back to the 400 axis shafts I only have 3 (2 fletched) and (1 bare). Still experamenting.

I believe if you put a 100 (or even 125) grain adapters in a 125 grain tip on the 500's you'll see a big difference.
The shortness of the carbon makes it extremely stiff and it will take quite a bit of tip weight to make it fly right.
If you are not bareshaft tuning, you should probably look into it. Lots of advice here on how to.

You could add the 100 inserts to the 400's and see how that goes. Then play with tip weights. Can you find some light weight point below 100's? That may not be a tip weight you want to use, but if it tunes you can go to 50 gr. inserts or cut down the 100 inserts a little if you want to go with the 500 arrows.

i would try to take the heavy inserts out of the 500's and try different point weights.

yup!!! i did the same and had a lot better results. not got all the weight now, but they shoot a lot flatter and straighter. i like the feel of the lighter arrows to be honest.
