Running pig
« on: February 22, 2009, 10:05:00 PM »
I went pig huntin' this afternoon on public land with a friend who still shoots with training wheels. We got on a group of 8 or 10 pigs and split up. We were about 20 yards apart and were both about 15 yards from the pigs. They were all purty small   :saywhat:  , so I motioned for him to shoot one if he wanted to. He did and pigs scattered everywhere. Two came running by me at about 7 or 8 yards. I swung on the second pig and shot. The Magnus 1 hit him a little far back, but I saw him go down after about 25 yards. We waited about 30 minutes and began trailing his pig. After about 150 yards of finding decent blood, we jumped the pig up. We spent the rest of the afternoon searching but never found anymore blood or the pig. I could have gave him H@!/ about the fact that I killed my pig running with a recurve and he lost his standing still with a compound, but he was already depressed   "[dntthnk]"  , so I did'nt rub his nose in it   :D  . I will post pictures in a day or two.

Wow, you are a much better shot than me.  I don't have the confidence to shoot at anything running that is bigger than a rabbit.  Congrats on the kill.

Pigs are tough and even with a blood trail the wound can seal.  The pig is probably coyote food, but they have to eat too.

GG, I shot one just like that one time.  I was hunting in Louisiana.  A nice boar came running by me on a dead run at like 5 to 7 yards or something, and I drew back and nailed him. Saw him go down.  I have shot deer on drives that were kind of at a trot or a fast walk, but never tried on that was running.  Honestly, I don't remember if I intended to shoot that running pig or not.  It just happend!
