It has been a long Winter and we have the "itch" to get out and hunt something.  Not feeling real good about the idea of a preserve boar hunt, but would be excited about a free ranging hog hunt.
Can anyone offer tips about free ranging hog hunts somewhere driving distance from Michigan?

Does anyone guide these kind of hunts, if they exist? It would be nice to have someone around who knows what they're doing, especially if you only have a few days available.  Looking for something around the first week of April, and it sure would be good to get out of Michigan!!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dick,

Check out the Texas Sweat 09 thread.  It's free range hogs and javies.  Give Curtis a call.

Ray Hammond's place in SC too. I think he still had an opening for April...maybe late April.

Its a drive but a long drive...but worth it too.

To get into free range hogs you are certainly going to need to drive a distance I would think.  I've just come to accept the drive as part of the hunt.  When I leave my driveway the adventure begins.
Curtis is Texas or Ray in SC would be at the top of my list if it were me.  (And I sure wish it was!)

He lives in GA but his hunt is in SC just over the GA line.

I thought the same thing when I went there. I was looking at the GA regulations and then found it I need to be looking at SC regs.

Ray's hunt is truly free range.   Although you can legally trickle corn if you want, most of the hogs his guys take are killed in swamps & thickets by spot & stalk and are not baited at all.   It is a beautiful piece of property to walk and has lots of hogs.

If you want a free range hunt Ray's place is it.
