Recurve string length?
«
on:

Is this right? I have several old recurves that are not marked for length. To measure, I run a tape on the belly side from nock to nock?
Once I have that length, then deduct 4 inches to find out the correct string?
Thanks for the help!

You run the tape on the back of the limbs, i.e., the side you can't see, facing away from you when you draw the bow. The rest of your formula is correct. Good luck.

Actually the only way to find the correct AMO" of a bow is to find a string that braces it at the correct brace height and then add (3") to get the correct AMO measurement. AMO is a STANDARD for recurve and longbows.
Your tape measurement will get you close, but may not be perfectly exact. Some bows take a string 1.5-almost 5" shorter than they are Nock to Nock.

what i do is find out the recommended brace height. get a piece of strong cord and brace it at the right brace and then measure the string length.
