45# and WW, enough for turkeys?
« on: February 28, 2009, 07:30:00 PM »
I want to turkey hunt with my new long bow its 45# at my draw length, but Im not sure what broad head to use. My deer set-up is 52# and Ive always shot WW on POC shafts with great success. The question I have is, can I use my POC shafts
(540 grs.) and the WW heads and still get enough penetration with my  new bow?

i have used a 44#recurve and 525gr arrows to get a pass thru on a doe and killed a 140# hog, that arrow went to the fletching( perfectly broadside at 18yds)....so i think your setup will work fine....turkeys can be tough, so wait for an ideal shot. good luck

You have enough bow and arrow weight and Woodsmans are a fine three-blade head.  Turkeys can be hard to penetrate.  Their feathers can grab and slow down the broadhead more than one would think.  A bigger penetration problem though is that because they are physically light, relatively speaking, their entire body tends to move with the impact of the arrow, which in turn reduces penetration.  Regardless, you have enough to do the job.  Have fun.  Dood luck.
