New J.D. Berry Taipan
« on: March 03, 2009, 01:48:00 PM »
im gonna start by saying i dont have a way to post pics  :)  only camera i have is on my phone.
so any way 66" 46@ 28 berry taipan.  i have never been so impressed with a bow from the start. i have bought many custom bows, and never been so impressed with the craftsmanship and just overall apperance. so in other words this is the Most Beautiful bow i have ever saw. but not only that it shoots awesome. i just got back inside from shooting and i got it figured out now. the yew he used on the limbs is vibrant orange and very figured. most ppl that have seen it say they have never seen such pretty yew in a bow limb. i went out on a limb with this bow, i havent heard much about J.D Berrys bows at the time when i ordered. and had never shot or seen one in person. but this is one time i didnt get burned. J.D is a great guy to deal with and very artistic and creative, which is very evident in his craftsmanship and design.
bow draws smooth as could be and is dead in the hand even with light arrows. i shoot about 420 total arrow weight, and even with this arrow the bow is silent. well i just wanted to give credit where it was due. so if your thinking about one of these bows you wont be disapointed.

The Taipan is my favorite from JD.  Great shooting reverse handle bows with trapazoid limbs that still maintain a close "D" shape profile.  If you want beauty and function they are hard to beat.

James makes a great bow. This is my Tipan 64in 55@28.  My favorite longbow period.  Yeah if you can get a pic up we love to see it.

I agree that James is one of the best!  Congrats on the bow.  Hope you enjoy yours as much as i do mine!  Everyone that's seen it says it's some of the best craftsmanship they've ever seen, and definitely one of the best they've ever shot!!

ENJOY!

you can't go wrong.  I've had three Berry bows.  I had to part with the first two because i couldn't pull 50# any more.  When I told JD that, he immediately offered to build me one I could shoot. He finished it very quickly and it's a fantastic bow, very fast (consistently in the 190's by machine measure).  It's also absolutely beautiful.   Here's my viper, 66" and 33# @ 25":

While we were discussing the bow, I told him the troubles I had had getting the flatbow I wanted built.  Here's JD in action...  He invited me out to his place to build a form and teach me how to lay up the bow!   That's what got me stared building my flatbows.
