will this be ok??
« on: March 03, 2009, 09:26:00 PM »
I shoot a 50# recurve and am useing a 415 gr toatal weight arrow, will this be enough to put a turkey down!! I really can not use much more wieght my bow only is 50#'S from what I have been researching on arrow wieghts? The heavier they are then they do not fly as good. What I am useing flyes well and gets good penitration on my targets.

You sure can use more weight if you get the arrow tuned right. I am shooting 544gr arrows off my 50# Sarrels takedown recurve. Adding more weight to your arrows that you use now will weaken the spine and you would have to shorten them or go to a different shaft, but it can be done. By the way, a 415gr arrow will have no problem killing a turkey, deer, or just about anything else in NA if you put it in the right place.

you research must have been compound orientated! heavy arrows can certainly fly good. your setup will work but with something around 550-560gr with high foc you would get more penetration and your bow would probably be quieter too.

I shot 8gpp. quite a bit and killed coyotes, turkeys and deer with a 42# Widow and arrows weighing 330 grains. You will do fine, keep the shots close and use scary sharp heads and you will kill lots of critters with that set-up. I do agree though that there are lots of options. I shoot 51-55# bows and shoot carbons weighing 510 grains with great flight. You could easily get an arrow weighing over 500 grains to fly well from your bow. Shawn
