We were on the King Ranch.  The first one, I had just hopped in the truck to pick up some other guys to head back in and I noticed several come out behind me a ways back, so I hopped out and went into th mesquite to sneak up closer.  I stopped at a bush and waited for one to come by and got a 10 yard shot.  He turned and ran right at me and stopped about 5 feet from me and woofed at me!  I was wishing I had Rocdoc's spear at the time!!!!  He ran off and fell about 20 yards.  A little bit later for the second one, it was even more exciting!

By the way, it is a non-guided hunt.  There's an outfitter in San Antonio that sets you up on one of 3 ranches.  You have a place to camp on the ranch and he usually has a walk-in cooler to store your game (it was broke this trip).  There is also water and electric so I brought my fifth wheel camper.  Most of the folks camped out in tents.
Also, I'm thinking of going to a 3 blade broadhead next year (like the Woodsman).  Javelina and hogs don't leave much, if any, of a blood trail.

And now for the second one:  Ronnie and I were sneaking down a creek bottom, there were several Javelina around the bend.  Since Ronnie had not got one yet, he was in front.  Ronnie got to where he could see them over a little rise at the inside of the creek bend and took a shot and missed.  Well, all I saw was a bunch heading up the other bank and so I let loose with my Javelina call and at least 6 of them came charging back!  And Ronnie didn't have his bow reloaded yet!  They stopped within 10 yards and the lead one was quartering to me (I had moved a couple of steps to the side by then) So I took a shot, but it hit a little back.  Ronnie had an arrow ready by then and he took a shot at it.  This one left a small blood trail, but we found it and I had to put another arrow in it.  I feel like I saved Ronnie's life by shooting the first one that was charging in!!!!!

congrats.  We went down in Jan. and got several.  There were 5 of us trad guys.  We just made the sausage last weekend.  Made a batch of Southern Style Breakfast and a batch of German sausage.  Pretty good.  You have to mix in some ground pork, because they are pretty lean.  :clapper:
