I have a quick question: I will install a leather bow saddle custom formed to my bow with Barge cement.
In case I decide to remove it, is Barge c. easy to totally remove from the bow finish?

Ya know I've never had to remove it, but I believe this is why its used because of the ease of removal!

Barge also makes a solvent to remove the glue and to thin it. Acetone may do the same thing.

Usually you can roll most of it off by pushing it with your fingers. The stubborn parts come off quickly with acetone.

Barge cement is all I use for leather work because it usally is easy to remove.If it doesn't I use some Goof Off to remove any remaing residue.

on the back of the tube, it says to use nail polish to remove any extra residue.

I think nail polish remover is a lacquer thinner or something close to it. In short, it's pretty strong stuff. Just might soften the finish. But, as others have said, a solvent usually isn't necessary.

Nail polish remover is an acetone.

All I've had to do is peel/roll it off with a thumb or finger. It act a bit like rubber cement in that respect.

having trouble seeing how bow finish would look worse under Barge cement and leather for having used acetone to get the previous Barge cement off????? It can't even be seen.

Or maybe you're thinking about destroying the weather-proof qualities????

Is Barge cement usually a local purchase, or online purchase?

Denatured alcohol will remove it and has no effect on finish.

Can't wait to install the bow saddle, and if I don't like it(which I doubt)I will be able to revert in no time.

Jim, it depends. They sell it at the local ACE hardware here. Other places I've lived you couldn't find it anywhere and had to mail order.

It will roll of with fingers, then clean surface with the denatured alcohol. Toluene is the thinner but not sure if it will harm the bow finish.

It comes off easily with a little finger action. Avoid any solvents not needed any can harm your finish.

Across the country I have found Ace to be the best place to find it. I am not working for Ace hardware. Really.

Barge Cement is a brand name for contact cement. Weldwood also makes a contact cement that works the same as Barge.IMO I'm sure there are other brands too.
