Well, I'm currently rehabing my left shoulder after rotator cuff surgery that was performed on 2/4/09. I was experiencing severe pain, and was unable to raise my left (bow) arm. The surgeron told me that the MRI showed severe tears and a large spur that would have to be removed. He said that this surgery usually involved an open incision, but he would go in with a scope first to look at it. Well, after three hours of surgery, he finally got me put back together. I had completely torn the two muscles on the outside of the shoulder loose from the bone, and the muscles were damaged. The surgeon shortened the muscles approximately one inch to remove the damaged tissue. He also inserted seven anchors in my upper arm bone to reattach the muscles to. He also removed the bone spur, which was what did the damage to my rotator cuff muscles. He did manage to do the surgery with a scope instead of the open incision, that's why it took so long to do. I guess if I'd been in my twenties or thirties, instead of my fifties, he would of done the open incision. But, you know how it is, we old guys don't heal as fast as we used to. Physical therapy is going good. I go three times a week. The exercises aren't that bad, it's the stretching that involves the therapist pushing and twisting on my arm to try and get that inch of muscle back. The surgeon told me that it would take six months for me to recover 100%, and probably four months before I can expect to be able to do much at all. So, here I sit, waiting till he says that I can start tooling up, and start making forms, hot boxes, and tiller trees, before I can build my first bow.
