I shot one years and years ago in a pond, but never on the wing. I was only 14 I think but we were camping and I was HUNGRY.

I shot it in the shallows and jumped in after it so it wouldn't get away. Then onto the open fire on a spit...delicious. Shooting it of a dock might have been easier though  :p  .

I also caught one with my fly rod (true story in fact my daughter still talks about that one).

I was flyfishing of a dock (how convienient) and this duck swims by. I asked my daughter if she has ever seen a duck up close. Nope - so I casted and hooked it under the wing (barbless hooks) and brought her in flapping. That duck just sat there while we petted it and then I let her go....well she got in the reeds and gave it to me..whack whack whack whack....what a comotion

I also caught a bat and a muskrat and a beaver on the flyrod too.....every once in awhile I actualy get FISH...

Docks taste better than scaup [divers] Please use brdhds. Every year you see a duck or goose with a fld. pt in it on the TV news. I have a video of Wensel jump shooting.

oh yeah I have many times and as mentioned a broadhead is the best well the only way to go.I use my regular hunting arrows and I always take a few flu flu's with broadheads along for those 5-8 yard wing shots. If its legal go for it.Way to much fun to pass up...bowdoc

I watched a old film of Ben Pearson shooting docks, he made a few kills but missed quite a few times. He wasn't using flu flus, regular arrows.

I had enough problems hitting those little fighter jets with shotguns.  Nothing compares to being in a boat blind on the Chesapeake and have a dozen bluebills rocket in straight at you 3' off the water and flare up in all directions when the shooting starts.

I couldn't imagine doing it with a bow.

It is a blast!  It is a great bird to hunt with a bow because they don't taste that great so you won't have to eat very many.
One think to note is that they are extremely agile in the air and can literally dodge the arrow.  We had one lay over on it's side at the last second dodging a well placed arrow.  It was actually really impressive.
Go early in the season so you don't have to be as bundled up.

You could use a bowfishing setup and just glue a broadhead to the arrow.  :D

Don't know about a dock, but I hit my deck before.  I have tried, got close, but no feathers yet.
