crack in riser, HELP!!!
«
on:

I went stump shooting today and was admiring my bow (Brack Quest) when I noticed a small crack on the edge of the shelf and down towards the grip. It is very small but it is definately a crack. How can I stop it from spreading? A little history of the bow I got it new just over two years ago, and this time last year I sent it away to have the grip professionally checkered. It is my favorite bow and I don't want it to get ruined. What can I do. Thanks, Jonathan

is it an actual crack or is it in between the layers where it is glued together.

Call Bill!! If it is only two years old he will make it right. What wood is in the riser? Could just be a drying check. Some woods, ie, cocobolo, ebony and osage are bad about drying checks. When you had it checkered, did they refinish the riser? Maybe the finish was gone from the checkering. Just tossing out some thoughts.

That is a common spot for checking to occur, especially with certain types of woods like Danny said. Very likely can be fixed with CA glue (superglue) without further problems. But as suggested, check with Bill, and send him some close up pictures. He will likely offer to take care of it for you and refinish the riser after stabilizing the crack.

Post pics if you can Jon.If it is a crack in the shelf/grip area i would recommend sending it back and have the bowyer cut the cracked part out in a radius and put in a saddle and then reshape the grip and shelf, refinish .

I guarantee you Bill will know what to do and will go out of his way to make it right. He is the first person to ask. Few bowyers are as knowledgeable and skillful as Bill, and he takes great pride in his bows.
