I belong to a medieval group which requires the use of wooden arrows.  I am also planning on bowhunting with my hickory longbow.  From what I have read about shafting, I am thinking of going with Sitka Spruce or Douglas Fir shafts.  However, have been having trouble finding anyone who sells the Sitka Spruce shafts and only a few who sell the Douglas Fir.  Also haven't found much information about shaft weights for either of them.  My plan is to make up a set of regular target arrows for my medieval archery and a set of hunting arrows using a screw-in adaptor so that I can use broadheads and field points on the same shafts(to save wear and tear on the broadheads when practicing).  Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

surewood shafts sells nice fir shafts. Their website has mass weight ranges too. you can buy 'em from several places including braveheart archery and some other places.

We have the Surewood Fir, top quality shafting.

The Fir averages 350 to 450 grains raw (40 to 70 pound spines) and is pretty consistent but you can find both lighter and heavier if you look, it's wood after all.  Fir can also be had in very high spines if you want it.

Most of our mid range shafting is about 400 grains for a 32" raw shaft.

Hope this helps, Tim

I sell Douglas fir, not sure where in WI you are located. But, if you are in the Madison area. You can always stop by the house, and take alook at what I have.  I also have the ACE Classic points that make a great looking Medieval looking arrow.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.  Does anyone know about Foxfire Traditional ArcherY in Kentucky?  I came across their site and it has almost everything that I am looking for but haven't gotten a response from any emails I have sent them, not even a bounce-back.
