I need to order some new strings for my wifes Navajo scout Take Down Longbows. I know that Roy Hall had originally suggested 450+ in about 16 strand. Her bow weights are 52lbs @28" and 43lbs@28". I had some made up in D97 (8 strand) will that be more punishing on the bow? I think that my wife would rather give up performance to prolong the life if the bows.
Is it safe to use D97 on the bows versus 450+?

D97 is fine if 450+ is. Pad the loops and 8 strands should be fine also.

450+ is stronger then D97 and has no creep,D97 has low creep and is one of my favorite string materials.A 6 strand 450+ measured about .060 diameter and 12 strands of D97 measure about .080 diameter.Like said 8 strand D97 should be fine,just pad the loops.A 12 strand D97 is strong enough for upto a 100# bow.I like D97 it's a great string and cost less then 450+.

as long as the bow is rated for modern string fibers then any hmpe fiber (trade names such as dyneema, vectran, spectra, etc.) is safe to use.
