Whats the OD of Grizzzlystik Alaskan and Safari shafts?
« on: March 29, 2009, 11:22:00 AM »
Hi all,

Next bow arriving is going to be around 70# and Im looking for shafts stiff enough with around 350-385 gr up front, and was thinking the Grizzlystiks might be stiff enough. Just concerned if they going to be "fat" behind the BH, as this may reduce penetration and they more susceptible to dings.

Could someone with these shafts mind measuring them with a micrometer for me, or maybe just compare them to an AD Trad Heavy if thats possible?

Thanks!

I have some Alaskans.  The shaft just behind the point measures .353" and over the brass insert itself I get .357"
Sorry I don't have any Safari's...

It depends on the location on the shaft that you take your measurement, where you cut the shafts if you don't want/need them full length and which end you cut if you choose to cut them.

Good point Bill, I was interested in the OD just behind the BH as this area would cause the most drag during penetration.

I forget which end you're supposed to lop off on the AD's but no doubt it'll affect the OD if taken from the front. Might be able to kill two birds here.

For those interested the AD Trad Heavies measure between .351-.355" (measured 5 shafts), full length shafts at the point end.

The measurements I mentioned above are at 29 inches.  I am pretty sure that I cut the front only.

Just my observation, but....70# bow...with probably a 650-700grain arrow....slightly FOC up front with a cut on contact head.....penetration?...maybe a pass through a 69 Buick car door could be an issue but I think your safe on most fur and hides in the states.....Nock It UP!!!!
Aim down your arrow because thats where it's going.

Grizz Stick are "continuous taper" from end to end... Contact ABS for information specific to a particular length arrow.
